Department of Defense Internship Opportunities in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Center will offer an exciting program with the Department of Defense once again this summer. Internships will be 10 weeks and are available in a variety of fields. Examples of work completed by past interns include: analysis of major weapon systems, assisting with military-to-military bilateral relations, updating and maintaining departmental websites, providing support for departmental social programs, statistical analysis of budget submissions, reviewing reports from Congress, and more. This program gives students the opportunity to develop important skills, make professional contacts, build their resumes, and explore future career opportunities within the Department of Defense. Graduate students of diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility:

Students must:
(1) be U.S. citizens; (2) have a 2.5 GPA or above; (3) be an undergraduate or graduate student; and (4) submit an online application (see below).

Compensation:

Graduate and undergraduate interns not seeking credit will receive fully-furnished housing while in DC as well as a substantial stipend to offset personal costs. Students seeking credit are encouraged to contact The Washington Center for more information. Those who do not request Washington Center housing will have their stipends adjusted accordingly. To apply for the DOD internship program, students should complete The Washington Center’s Department of Defense application, available online at https://secure.twc.edu/twc/default.jsp. When prompted, students should select internship, then Option 2 for the Government Scholarship Program and choose Department of Defense from the drop-down menu. The Senior Business Proposal Analyst I will be responsible for the complete development of complex financial proposals. In addition, s/he will be responsible for the preparation of subcontractor cost proposal packages and negotiations with subcontractors, proposed employees and consultants. The Senior Business Proposal Analyst will also be responsible for cost negotiations with clients both as a prime contractor and as a subcontractor, and any other submissions as required by AED’s technical team or the client. This individual must have strong bid/development skills as well as actual hands-on past experience in preparing project budgets.

Bachelors or equivalent work experience required; Minimum six years experience in cost proposal development, financial analysis, and contracts negotiation; Grant proposal development experience desirable; Knowledge and understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), AIDAR, Labor, Education, Health and Human Services, U.S. Information Agency as well as such multi-lateral banks as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Bank, etc; Knowledge, understanding, and experience working with the U.S. Agency for International Development regulations and handbooks required.
