The Washington DC NSHMBA Chapter would like to notify you of the following Exciting Internship and Career Opportunities offered by the Hispanic College Fund

Department of Defense Internship Opportunities in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Center will offer an exciting program with the Department of Defense once again this summer. Internships will be 10 weeks and are available in a variety of fields. Examples of work completed by past interns include: analysis of major weapon systems, assisting with military-to-military bilateral relations, updating and maintaining departmental websites, providing support for departmental social programs, statistical analysis of budget submissions, reviewing reports from Congress, and more. This program gives students the opportunity to develop important skills, make professional contacts, build their resumes, and explore future career opportunities within the Department of Defense. Graduate students of diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility:

Students must:
(1) be U.S. citizens; (2) have a 2.5 GPA or above; (3) be an undergraduate or graduate student; and (4) submit an online application (see below).

Compensation:

Graduate and undergraduate interns not seeking credit will receive fully-furnished housing while in DC as well as a substantial stipend to offset personal costs. Students seeking credit are encouraged to contact The Washington Center for more information. Those who do not request Washington Center housing will have their stipends adjusted accordingly. Application Procedures:

To apply for the DOD internship program, students should complete The Washington Center’s Department of Defense application, available online at https://secure.twc.edu/twc/default.jsp. When prompted, students should select internship, then Option 2 for the Government Scholarship Program and choose Department of Defense from the drop-down menu. The Washington Center application has been streamlined for this program and should only take a few minutes to complete; if you have any questions about the required components, please contact us at federalrelations@twc.edu or by phone at 202-238-7900. Qualified applicants should apply as soon as possible, and preferably by February 9th, as these positions will be filled on a rolling basis.

Weekly internship pay will be $350 to $400 depending on the year the intern will be entering the following school year.

The Senior Business Proposal Analyst I will be responsible for the complete development of complex financial proposals. In addition, s/he will be responsible for the preparation of subcontractor cost proposal packages and negotiations with subcontractors, proposed employees and consultants. Bachelors or equivalent work experience required; Minimum six years experience in cost proposal development, financial analysis, and contracts negotiation; Grant proposal development experience desirable; Knowledge and understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), AIDAR, Labor, Education, Health and Human Services, U.S. Information Agency as well as such multi-lateral banks as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Bank, etc; Knowledge, understanding, and experience working with the U.S. Agency for International Development regulations and handbooks required.

2008 NSHMBA Washington Pre-Conference Workshop at the University of Maryland was a great success

The 2008 Washington DC NSHMBA Chapter held a Pre-Conference Workshop to help prepare MBA students for the 2008 NSHMBA Conference in Atlanta on Oct. 9-11th. It was a great success with many students participating and benefiting from the resume review session that followed afterwards. If you have not yet registered for the conference, make sure to do so soon. The conference will have over 8,000 attendees and over 300 corporate and academic sponsors. In addition, there will be over 500 interview booths and over 4,000 on-site interviews! DIRECTIONS TO THE TRINITY CENTER

From the Northwest:

From I-495 (the Washington Beltway), take Exit 31B, Georgia Avenue South. Proceed approximately six miles, crossing the Maryland/DC line. Turn left on Irving Street (the three preceding streets are Morton, Lamont, and Kenyon). Cross Warder Street and at the next intersection, turn right onto Park Place. In one block bear left onto Michigan Avenue. Continue on Michigan, crossing First, North Capital, and Franklin Streets. Trinity College is on the right.

From the Northeast:

From I-95 take I-495 South. Follow 495 to exit 19B, Route 50 West/Washington. Follow Route 50 West approximately five and one half miles to South Dakota Avenue and turn right onto South Dakota. Follow South Dakota one and one half miles to Monroe Street. On the right corner is a sign posted for Trinity and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Turn left onto Monroe and follow Monroe, staying in left lane, approximately two miles until Monroe dead ends into Michigan Avenue. Turn left onto Michigan and proceed a short distance passing the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on your right. Cross Irving Street, and Trinity College will be on the left.

From the South:

From I-495 (the Washington Beltway), take Exit 4B, 395 North, Washington. Continue on 395 North. Watch the exit signs. After Exit 10, get in the right-hand lanes (after Exit 11, the road divides and the left-hand lanes funnel onto Route 1). Continue on 395 North. Watch the exit signs carefully but do not take any of them, as you want to remain on 395. Continue on 395 North (follow signs) until it ends at New York Avenue. Turn right onto New York Avenue. Go through 2 traffic lights, take first right-hand turn after 2nd light (this is M Street). Continue on M Street for a short distance; at 2nd traffic light, make a left-hand turn onto North Capitol Street. Proceed approximately 1 mile; at 8th traffic light make a right-hand turn onto Michigan Avenue. Trinity College is on the right after first traffic light.

* Metrorail / Trinity Shuttle

Trinity is close to the Brookland/CUA Metro station on the red line (for further information on the Trinity Shuttle schedule, contact Campus Safety at 202-884-9111).

To catch the shuttle at the Brookland/CUA station, exit to the right. At the top of the escalator, turn left and walk to the end of the iron railing and wait for the shuttle with the Trinity logo on the side.
